Why San Antonio RV Buyers Should Inspect New RVs Before Delivery

In reality, dealerships are not required to perform an independent buyer-focused inspection, and manufacturers rely heavily on warranty systems after delivery.

Once an RV is purchased and accepted, leverage shifts away from the buyer. Instead of negotiating repairs, owners are placed into a warranty queue. A pre-purchase RV inspection allows issues to be identified, documented, and addressed before that happens.

Sidewall Sealant Gaps and Water Intrusion Concerns

During this 2026 Alliance Paradigm 310RL inspection, multiple sealant gaps were observed along the sidewalls. These areas are typically sealed with a flexible exterior sealant applied over a primary butyl tape seal. If that primary seal degrades or was improperly installed, water intrusion can occur quickly.

Roof Observations and Membrane Bubbling

The roof sealant on this RV was in very good condition, which is not always the case on new units. However, unusual bubbling was observed in the roof membrane. Some membrane bubbling can be normal as part of the manufacturing process, but the pattern observed warranted further evaluation.

Documenting roof conditions during a new RV inspection is essential. If bubbling increases or leads to delamination later, the documentation establishes that the condition existed during the warranty period.

Slide-Out Damage and Alignment Questions

This Alliance Paradigm is equipped with multiple slide-outs. Scratches and gouging were observed underneath several of the slide mechanisms. While the visible damage was relatively minor, the primary concern is determining the cause.

Damage can occur if debris is present during slide operation, but it can also indicate alignment issues. Identifying this early helps ensure the condition does not worsen and protects the owner from future warranty disputes.

Trim Separation and Failing Butyl Tape

Peeling exterior trim with exposed butyl tape was also found. When butyl tape begins to fail, it creates an entry point for moisture behind the exterior walls. For RVs stored outdoors in Texas, this can lead to hidden damage if left unresolved.

These areas were documented so repairs can be completed before water intrusion becomes a larger issue.

Wiring Loom Failures and Exterior Exposure

Alliance generally does a good job protecting wiring with loom coverings, but this inspection revealed two areas where loom protection had failed. One was located beneath a slide-out, and the other near the rear four-pin connector.

Although the wiring remained functional, exposed wiring increases the risk of water intrusion, corrosion, and pest damage. These issues are common in Texas climates and are best addressed early.

Electrical Panel Neutral Conductor Observations

Inside the electrical distribution panel, multiple neutral conductors were observed terminating under a single screw on the neutral bus bar. While RV electrical systems are not governed in the same way as residential systems, applicable standards and best practices typically call for one neutral conductor per termination.

This is a common finding across many RV brands, not just Alliance. The condition was documented so the manufacturer can review and correct it if necessary.

Battery Monitor Accuracy and Battery Box Venting

The interior battery monitor displayed inaccurate voltage information despite the battery testing fully charged with a multimeter. While likely an instrumentation issue, inaccurate readings can mislead owners and impact battery management.

More importantly, the battery box venting system was not properly sealed. This allows battery off-gassing to enter the interior of the RV, directly below the bedroom. Proper battery venting is a safety issue and should always be corrected immediately.

Interior Fit and Finish Findings

Additional interior findings included a drawer that was off its track and a shower tower leaking at the faucet connection. Minor exterior scuffing was also observed on the rear cap, consistent with contact that often occurs on crowded dealership lots.

These items are fully repairable but highlight the importance of inspecting even brand new RVs.
