Seguin RV Inspection Case Study: What We Found on a 2027 Keystone Cougar 26RKE
Buying a new RV does not mean every component is ready for delivery. During our inspection of a 2027 Keystone Cougar 26RKE fifth wheel in Seguin, Texas, we documented a breakaway switch concern, peeling skylight sealant, uneven slideout seal compression, and an automatic leveling sequence that left the RV nose high.
These findings gave the buyer specific concerns to address with the seller before taking delivery.

A Breakaway Switch Concern Needed Attention Before Travel
During the inspection, we found that the emergency brake breakaway switch did not fully seat. We documented this as a life safety issue requiring evaluation and correction by a qualified technician.
The observation did not establish the underlying cause or prove that the entire emergency braking system had failed. It identified a safety component that needed attention before travel.
For a buyer preparing to tow a fifth wheel home, this is an important item to resolve before delivery.

The Slideout Extended, but Its Seal Compressed Unevenly
When fully extended, the curbside slideout tightly compressed its gasket at the top while leaving the bottom without compression.
That finding shows why checking a slideout involves more than confirming that it moves in and out. Its position at full extension and the way it meets the surrounding seals also need inspection.
We recommended further evaluation and correction by a qualified technician. The inspection documented the uneven compression; it did not determine which adjustment or repair would be necessary.

Skylight Sealant Was Already Peeling
On the roof, we found peeling sealant around the skylight. We classified this as a major finding because compromised sealant can create a path for water intrusion.
That classification reflected the potential consequences of leaving the condition unaddressed. It did not mean concealed water damage had been confirmed.
We also documented deteriorating exterior sealant near a speaker and at a slideout awning location.

Roof Membrane Bubbling Warranted Evaluation
The roof membrane had visible bubbling. We documented it separately from the peeling skylight sealant and recommended evaluation by a qualified technician, along with monitoring for changes.
The report did not identify the bubbling alone as proof of roof failure. Keeping those findings separate helped distinguish a condition needing evaluation from a specific sealant problem needing correction.
Automatic Leveling Finished With the RV Nose High
The automatic leveling system completed its sequence, but the fifth wheel remained nose high.
This was another example of a system completing an action without achieving the expected result. The control panel’s completed sequence needed to be considered alongside the RV’s actual position.
Further evaluation was needed to determine the appropriate correction.

Smaller Delivery Items Were Documented Too
The inspection also identified an entry door that did not close properly, missing outside shower components, a bulge in the monitor panel, and several cosmetic concerns.
These included cabinet scratches, countertop and flooring discoloration, and peeling docking lights. They were documented alongside the more significant findings so the buyer had a fuller picture of the RV’s condition.
What This Seguin RV Inspection Provided
The inspection provided a prioritized list of concerns to discuss with the seller before delivery. The main priorities included the breakaway switch, skylight sealant, slideout seal compression, and leveling performance.
A new model year does not replace an inspection of the individual RV. Documenting its condition gives buyers specific questions to ask, repairs to discuss, and items to verify before their first trip.
