If you're looking for a nature retreat near Chicago, Camp Bullfrog Lake in Willow Springs, Illinois offers a beautiful and serene camping experience. We recently had the opportunity to stay here and overall, it was a pleasant trip.
The highlight of the campground is its picturesque surroundings - nestled in the woods next to a scenic lake, it's easy to feel immersed in nature. The campsites themselves are spacious and well-maintained, offering plenty of room for tents, campers, and RVs. The staff were also friendly and accommodating, making check-in and any questions we had a breeze.
However, there were a few drawbacks to our stay. Firstly, the gate to the campground is locked at inconsistent times, which made coming and going a bit of a hassle. It would be helpful if the gate hours were more clearly communicated or if there was a way to easily access the gate.
Additionally, the price of the campground felt a bit high considering the limited amenities available. There is no pool or playground for kids, and the only recreational activity available is hiking or fishing. While this may be appealing for some visitors, those looking for more options for entertainment may be disappointed.
Overall, Camp Bullfrog Lake is a lovely spot for a quiet getaway in nature. Just keep in mind the issues with the gate and the limited amenities when planning your trip.
